Historical Perspective
In Mexico and throughout the world the English language is the ‘lingua franca’. English is the most spoken second language and by consecuence its way to be learned ant thaught is important. In Mexico the ‘Educative Model’ (El Modelo educativo de México) states that the learning of a foreign language is part of «life competencies» (2016, p. 42). This blog mentions some of the changes there have been in this field and some possible perspectives.
In 1896 English along with French were declared as mandatory in Primary School.
In 1908 Teaching English is stablished as mandatory. In the schools •“the teacher would not speak in any other language but English and the students would answer in English” (translation by the author from Bazant, 2006, p. 75).
Any technology in that time?
In the 1930s teaching English became mandatory in Secundary School.
In 2009 teaching English in the basic level of education became mandatory in all the country
